House finance committee worries Washington Bridge could push smaller projects aside

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — For RIDOT Director Peter Alviti it seems to be business as usual, with a full schedule of construction projects planned even though the Washington Bridge’s construction is the main concern.

Aliviti telling the house finance committee that over the next year, the DOT will be working on 62 new projects, 31 of those bridge related.

That volume of work is a concern to the finance committee as the Washington Bridge’s reconstruction will have to be an all hands on deck approach.

The committee fears because of that, some of the smaller projects on the books could get delayed or fall off their original timelines.

According to Alviti, there are two billion dollars worth of projects being done in Rhode Island this year.
