UPDATE: Child killed, man found dead of self-inflicted gunshot wound in Warwick home
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — ABC6 has learned that a young child has died after being shot this morning inside a home on Frawley Street in Warwick.
An adult man is also dead after police say he shot and killed himself.
This police investigation into what happened on Frawley Street had a very active scene throughout the morning with police seen going in and out of a home.
According to Warwick Police Chief Colonel Bradford Connor, officers were called to the home just before 8:30 a.m. after receiving reports that a child had been shot, and the suspect was armed inside the home.
Witnesses in the area tell ABC6 that dozens of officers responded to the scene, including SWAT teams.
A woman ABC6 spoke with says she heard officers telling the suspect to come out with his hands up.
“I could hear ‘71 Crawley please come out with your hands up,’ it went on for about half an hour, over and over they were repeating it,” said the witness.
Police said once they were able to get inside of the home they found that child dead, as well a man suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police saying they’re still working to piece together what led to this tragic event Thursday morning.
Several officers are still on the scene and we’ve seen officers going in and out of the home bringing things out and loading them on to cars.
“It’s a very sad day in our city,” said Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi.
This is a developing story, stay with ABC6 for further developments.
