Lighthouse Inn demolition delayed again
NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Lighthouse Inn’s demotion, scheduled for this morning, has been delayed again after insulation was found in the roof rafters last week.
The long-standing shuddered building in Narragansett will have to wait to be torn down at least one more day until the materials can be cleared out.
Crews continue working on the Lighthouse Inn, preparing it for demolition after years of delays.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said the inn has a 50/50 chance of being demolished Monday, but will likely be pushed back until Tuesday or Wednesday after the discovery of the Styrofoam.
Once the Styrofoam is removed and disposed of the demolition can go on.
Crews worked Monday morning to remove the insulation and knock down the building that has turned into an eye sore by the pier in Narragansett in recent years, as debates among residents and town officials have ensued over what to do with the building and potentially breached lease agreements with the property.
Once demolition does get underway the five-acre property will be knocked down, and next steps for what should go into the land by the water on Great Island Road will get underway.
