Lighthouse Inn demolition still in question for Tuesday

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said Monday that the Lighthouse Inn had a 50/50 chance of being demolished Monday, but would likely be pushed back until Tuesday or Wednesday after Styrofoam insulation was found in the roof rafters last Thursday.

The long-standing shuddered building in Narragansett is still standing as of Tuesday morning, waiting to see if it will be torn down today.

Once once the Styrofoam is removed and disposed of, the demolition can go on.

Crews continued working on the Lighthouse Inn Monday to remove the debris.

This property has been the center of debate in recent years between town residents and officials as well as the Lighthouse Inn, as the long-shuddered location has turned into an eyesore in recent years.

ABC6 will keep you updated as demolition is set to get underway this morning.
