Police believe Planet Fitness bomb threats were hoaxes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Multiple police departments found no bombs at the Planet Fitness locations that were threatened in an email Thursday.

The email said that shrapnel bombs were placed at gyms in Providence, East Providence, and Warwick.

East Providence Police Capt. Michael Rapoza said that K-9s from East Providence Police, Pawtucket Police, and Rhode Island State Police searched the two locations in the city and found no bombs.

Rapoza added that the department currently believes the threats were a hoax.

The Warwick Police Department also said that a K-9 search resulted in no bombs being found.

The Planet Fitness Corporation said that all locations are open.
