Detours put in place for West Warwick bridge work

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will close Providence Street (Route 33) over I-295 at the Providence Street Bridge for bridge work.

This work will take place April 1 and 2 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

This closure will be to install supports under the Providence Street Bridge to prepare for demolition and reconstruction of its center pier.

The bridge is structurally deficient and is being replaced.

Detours will be available on Route 2, Route 113 and River Street to connect New London Avenue and Providence Street.

The new bridge is expected to be finished in spring 2025.
