Rhode Islanders soak up the sun during record-breaking November temps
NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) – Stepping outside the last few days in Rhode Island, it’s hard to tell that it’s November.
The southern New England region is experiencing unusual and record-breaking warm temperatures for the fall season, and people are making sure to soak it up before the cold weather rolls in.
“For August 9th, it’s a wonderful day!”
Bill Tigano of Pawtucket spent the day Monday at Narragansett Town Beach, refusing to believe the date is actually November 9.
“I am calling it August 9th. There’s no one that can convince me otherwise,” Tigano said. “I actually came down with a friend on Saturday and it was a little crowded actually, and I kind of like the quiet of the beach and the sound of the ocean and stuff, and with so many people on Saturday I kind of lost that. So I decided I needed to come back today.”
There were dozens of surfers in the water in Narragansett Monday, and plenty of people on the beach too.

“It is weird for November,” said URI junior Emily Shields.
Shields and her friend, Kristen Doyle, both visited the beach before an exam.
“This is crazy,” Doyle said. “We definitely had to take advantage of the past few days, so we’ve been here three times already. We’ll probably be back more!”
Locals like Mary Combs are just happy a beach day in the fall means no summer tourists.
“They’re not here for the summer anymore. It’s been nice for us natives. (We’re) very lucky in November to have this weather. I think it’s a record-breaker. We come every day my friends and I, and we never thought we’d be here today.”
