Woonsocket DUI crash leaves one dead

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — According to Woonsocket Police Department, a DUI-related crash left one man dead on Saturday night.

Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash around 10:00 P.M. Saturday, near the area of Bernon and Maple Streets.

Upon arrival, officers discovered one of the vehicles to be occupied by a 64-year-old female with a 25-year-old male passenger, who both had injuries.

A 71-year-old male was found in the rear seat with serious injuries and non-responsive.

The male was treated-on scene and transported to Landmark Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver and passenger were transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of their non-life threatening injuries.

The second vehicle involved was found to be operated by 45-year-old Samuel Adams of Woonsocket.

In the passengers seat was a 34-year-old female.

According to police, after preliminary investigation, Adams was taken into custody for suspicion of operating under the influence.

Adams is currently charged with Driving Under the Influence Death Resulting and Driving to Endanger Death Resulting.

Adams was arraigned Sunday and given $25,000 surety bail.

He will be transported to the ACI and held until is court arraignment tomorrow with the exception that someone post bail on his behalf.

The police department said that this is an ongoing investigation and more charges may be forthcoming.
