Mass. State Police cruiser, construction truck hit by drunk driver

BRAINTREE, Mass. (WLNE) – A Massachusetts State Police cruiser and a contractor’s truck were hit by an impaired, wrong-way driver just after 5 a.m. on Sunday.
The incident happened at a road construction detail on Route 3 southbound in Braintree.
The driver, identified by State Police as 24-year-old Christopher Fay of Arbington, was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Fay was driving a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to South Shore Hospital.
A Massachusetts State Police cruiser, a 2013 Ford Interceptor, was struck. The Trooper was not injured.
A 53-year-old Stoughton man who was working for the road contractor was injured after a work truck, a Chevrolet 4500 flatbed was hit. He was transported to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries.
Fay is being charged with the following:
- Operating a vehicle under the influence of liquor
- Negligent operation
- Having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle
- Wrong way violation
Massachusetts State Police say the scene was cleared at 7:37 a.m.
