WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Police in Warwick are asking for the public’s help in identifying two people, who broke into the Department of Public Works building last week, and took some city vehicles for a joy ride.

Warwick Police posted surveillance video on their Facebook page late Monday night asking for any information related to the incident.

"Unfortunately the quality of the video — we can’t make out any faces so it is hard to determine whether or not they were employees of DPW," said Detective Christopher Lo with the Warwick Police Department.

What the video does show, is two people entering the back end of the lot around 1:00 AM last Thursday morning. They took out three different vehicles: a pickup truck, a Ford Taurus, and a van, taking each for a few wild laps around the lot.

"They used vehicles, and then at some point during their time in the city yard, they stole a window air–conditioning unit,” explained Detective Lo. “We believe after they took that out of the window they gained access to the inside of the building and vandalized it."

The Ford Taurus was totaled, and six other city vehicles sustained notable damage.

The city does not have a cost estimate on the damage yet, but says it’s nothing they can’t recover from.

Due to poor video quality, police have no leads at this time. but say the two culprits will be slapped with 7 counts of vandalism each.
