Warwick Ice Cream Co, Del’s team up for sweet summer treat

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE-TV)— It’s a Rhode Islander’s dream come true. Warwick Ice Cream has teamed up with Del’s Frozen Lemonade to put all the flavors of summer into one pint.

“About 12 months ago we said let’s reach out to Del’s to see if there’s any interest in doing a co–branded product, a lemon ice cream, and we pitched the idea and they we’re very excited and they said lets do it,” said Thomas Bucci, part of the management team for Warwick Ice Cream.

Bucci’s family has been in the ice cream making business for 88 years. He says the idea is part of a bigger nod to what they love about living and working in the Ocean State.

“We’ve been working on a pint line of ice cream that’s Rhode Island themed that people can call their own that’s something that can create a memory for them or bring them back to a certain time,” he explained.

His teams spent months trying different ingredients, and of course taste testing, to get the flavor just right.

“When you try the Del’s lemon ice cream you’re going to taste the fresh dairy and then on the backside you’re going to taste the very clean refreshing profile. They’re both very complimentary,” said Bucci.

The first batch was whipped up Monday and the assembly line buzzed with excitement. Bucci says they’ll package as many as 20,00o containers at the Bald Hill Road location today.

“We’re making plenty of supply because we know that people, once they try it they’re really going to enjoy it and they’ll be back for more. So we’re stocking up,” he said.

The ice cream will be available in local grocery store freezers later today.
