Cranston resurfacing Washington Secondary Bike Path

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Mayor Ken Hopkins announced Wednesday that the Washington Secondary Bike Path in Cranston will be resurfaced.

The project began with preliminary work on Monday, and the resurfacing process will start April 8, according to the Mayor’s Office.

The Washington Secondary Bike Path spans from Coventry to Cranston, passing through Warwick and West Warwick.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will be responsible for the resurfacing and repairs.

The construction will involve nightly closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays through late summer.

Officials said dates and targeted areas for work along the bike path in Cranston include:

  • April 8 – April 19:  Depot Ave, Cranston to Dyer Ave, Cranston.
  • April 22 – May 3:  Dyer Ave, Cranston to Uxbridge St, Cranston.
  • May 6 – June 14:  Uxbridge St, Cranston to West Natick Rd, Warwick

“While the construction may lead to temporary closures during weekday nights, the long-term benefits of a revitalized and safer bike path far outweigh the inconvenience,” Hopkins said.
