Busy travel days predicted by AAA as storm hits Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — AAA Northeast expects more travelers than usual this week.
With spring break and bad weather, they are advising travelers to keep a close eye on the storm and their flight status.
Florence Healy is heading back to Florida after visiting her fiancé in Rhode Island and said her flight was delayed twice on Wednesday evening.
“That gets me home around 11:30,” Healy explained. “By the time I get by car, I’ll be home at 1 a.m.”
AAA Northeast projects spring break travel will peak on Thursday and Friday, with more than 50,000 flights on Thursday.
The influx of travelers is poor timing with an incoming storm, the Northeast is seeing high winds, rain, and possible snow in some areas.
Regardless, Healy is hoping she’ll miss the worst of it.
“Well I was worried about them hitting tonight,” she said. “I don’t want to be on the plane with all the turbulence, because they said some of the gusts would be tonight.”
Kyle Grissum arrived at T.F. Green International Airport from the Atlanta airport, where he said was especially busy.
“There was just a lot of people,” Grissum said. “A lot more than normal, more than I’m used to seeing, but everything was on time for the most part.”
Barbara Love had a full day of flying, starting in New Mexico early Wednesday morning.
She said she’ll the weather won’t spoil her visit with loved ones on the East Coast.
“We’re here visiting his kids,” Love said. “So we’ll just hunker down.”
