Disguised marine surprises mom for Thanksgiving

WESTPORT, Mass. (WLNE) — A marine surprised his mom by coming home for Thanksgiving for the first time in years in Westport on Sunday.

His mom thought she was just getting a delivery from Stop & Shop from her marine son down in North Carolina; until she realized her son was the delivery driver disguised in a mask and Stop & Shop uniform.

He hasn’t been home for Thanksgiving in 6 years, and he told her he won a contest, and Stop & Shop would be stopping by to deliver food.

“I don’t even know where to begin. I am so gratified and I just can’t believe my son is here,” the mother said. “I’m so in shock.”

She had a lot to take in; aside from all the Thanksgiving food that Stop & Shop donated to the family.

Sunday was the first time she was meeting her son’s wife, and the first time her son was meeting his baby niece.

“It’s been awhile since I’ve been home for the holidays, missed a lot with the kids growing up, and it’s good to be back,” the marine said.

The marine, who’s been in the service for 6 years, even got a surprise of his own. Coincidentally, at the same time he was surprising his mom, the mailman showed up, who just happened to be one of his best friends from high school.

“This is a lot more than I expected it to be,” the marine said.
