Unlicensed contractor charged with larceny in Swansea

SWANSEA, Mass. (WLNE) — A Taunton man is accused of larceny totaling $25,000 after failing to begin work for a homeowner in Swansea.
Thomas Furtado, 53, is charged with larceny over $1,200, home improvement contractor violation and home improvement contractor unlicensed.
Furtado was ordered held on $15,000 bail in Fall River District Court on Wednesday.
A Swansea homeowner filed a report with the Swansea Police in February alleging they had entered into an agreement for Furtado to do renovations to their home.
Between September and November of 2023, the homeowner gave Furtado three checks totaling $25,000.
After several unsuccessful attempts by the homeowner to have Furtado begin the work, the homeowner filed the police report.
Further investigation discovered that Furtado did not have a valid home improvement contractor license, and he was issued a court summons.
Furtado is next due in court on May 3.
Swansea residents who believe they may be a victim of Furtado are asked to contact Det. Sgt. Jonathan Boyd at 508-674-8464 ext.147 or jonathan.boyd@swanseapolice.com.
