Heavy vehicles prohibited from multiple streets in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Mayor Brett Smiley said that vehicles over 15,000 pounds would soon be prohibited from certain streets in the city.
The prohibition will begin on April 8 and will affect roads like Angell Street, South Angell Street, Waterman Street, and Gano Street.
Smiley added that exemptions will apply for local deliveries, emergency vehicles, school and RIPTA buses, utility vehicles, and certain city and state vendor trucks on “essential tasks.”
This new ordinance aims to preserve local @CityofProv infrastructure by keeping heavy vehicles off our local streets, safeguarding our neighborhoods and enhancing pedestrian safety. Enforcement of this ordinance will begin on Monday, April 8, 2024.

“Commercial vehicles are asked to carry delivery or work order information,” the mayor said. “Violators may face fines of up to $200.”
