Prescribed burn in West Greenwich set for Monday

WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said it has scheduled a prescribed burn at the Big River Management Area for Monday.

RIDEM said that residents do not need to contact emergency services if they see fire or smell smoke in that area.

A prescribed burn in Tiverton was scheduled for Sunday but was postponed due to the weather.

RIDEM said that its Forest Fire Program’s prescribed fires prevent more severe wildfires during the season and also trains firefighters on how to fight forest fires.
