How to safely enjoy the total solar eclipse

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — ABC6 Meteorologist Kelly Bates reports from the Roger Williams Park Museum of Natural History and Planetarium where 1,000 families are registered for Monday’s solar eclipse watch party.

Solar eclipse glasses will be provided for each family in attendance, though there aren’t anymore pairs available.

Are there substitutes for solar eclipse glasses, like your regular sunglasses?

The answer is no, since regular sunglasses don’t provide the same protection as solar eclipse glasses.

Also, the sun is intense at this time of year, so some sunblock should be handy along with the needed eyewear.
