Pedestrian attacked in Brockton dies, suspect held without bail

BROCKTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A Brockton man was held without bail on a murder charge after the pedestrian he allegedly attacked with his car died over the weekend.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said investigators found that 45-year-old Vasco Semedo hit a 50-year-old man with his car, backed up, and hit him again.

Semedo then got out of the car and hit the man more than 20 times with a brick, according to witness accounts and surveillance footage of the incident on North Main Street at 8:53 a.m. Saturday.

The victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital before being medflighted to Boston Hospital, where he was pronounced dead late Sunday night.

Authorities arrested Semedo on-scene after he was detained by bystanders who held him until police arrived.

Semedo was arraigned Monday and pleaded not guilty to one charge each of murder and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

He is next scheduled to appear in court on May 14 for a probable cause hearing, per the District Attorney’s Office.
