RIPTA needs 30 more drivers to prevent service changes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — RIPTA shared with ABC 6 that they still need 30 more drivers in order to prevent service changes.

RIPTA said that they have hired 7 people so far, and currently have 9 pending hires.

The Transit Authority encourages those interested in pursuing a career with RIPTA to stop by their on-sit job fair today, April 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The job fair will be held at the RIPTA headquarters, 705 Elmwood Avenue, Providence.

A spokesperson from RIPTA shared the following data:

Paratransit Operator

  • 25 applications received total
  • 7 disqualified
  • 7 employment offers pending
  • 11 scheduled for interviews

Paratransit CDL Trainee

  • 140 applications received total
  • 121 Operator licensed applications
  • 19 Class A or B CDL licensed applications with no passenger endorsements
