UPDATE: 46 dogs seized from Pawtucket home, owners may face criminal charges

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Pawtucket Police Department shared Tuesday that two people may face criminal charges from a case involving animal hoarding.
On April 8, around 2:30 p.m. officials responded to a report of a possible elderly affairs/animal hoarding complaint near Senate Street.
Upon arrival, it was immediately apparent that living conditions were abhorrent, according to the Pawtucket police.
The RISPCA was called in for assistance, where 46 dogs were then seized from the home, in various health conditions.
Police said that an elderly couple eventually surrendered the animals to officials.
The dogs were transported for veterinary care and the home was condemned by the City of Pawtucket Zoning Department and arrangements were made for the couple to stay elsewhere.
The investigation is ongoing.
Police shared that the couple may face possible criminal charges, to be determined at a later date.
