Bill proposed to address Rhode Island teacher shortage

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Lawmakers are considering a bill Wednesday addressing the teacher shortage in the Ocean State.

The House of Representatives approved legislation Tuesday that would allow individuals who are still getting their teacher certifications to start teaching early.

This would be possible through an emergency preliminary certification, and would be in effect for one school year.

After that, it can be renewed annually for four additional school years.
