Neighbor ‘helped keep fire in check’ during Lakeville fire

LAKEVILLE, Mass. (WLNE) — A community member is being credited with helping contain a fire at a Lakeville house on Saturday.
The Lakeville Fire Department said the fire occurred on Bernard’s Way around 5 p.m. when a neighborhood child, whose family was helped by the department to deliver their newest member, saw the fire through a window in the home.
Another neighbor “helped keep some of the fire in check by spraying water into a window where the fire was venting.”
The department said that the family of four that lives in the home was not there at the time of the fire and the attached duplex was not damage.
Due to heavy smoke and fire damage, however, the home is uninhabitable and the Red Cross assisted the family.
The fire is still under investigation.
The department added that the fire was the first for the town’s new ladder truck, as well as the first for a number of new firefighters.
