Student found with firearm at Esek Hopkins Middle School

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Public Schools said that a student was found with a gun on Friday afternoon.
The incident happened during dismissal hours outside of Esek Hopkins Middle School. School officials said they quickly placed the student under their supervision, before police secured the weapon and detained the student.
In a letter sent to parents, Principal Luiz Fernadez said they had no knowledge on whether or not there were threats made to the school community, or if the weapon was shown to students.
“I want to thank the school community for the prompt response and especially the staff who came forward
with their concern,” said the principal. “I also want to thank police for their quick response to this matter. Our top priority is to ensure that all students and staff are safe.”
