Road work taking place across Bristol County

FREETOWN, Mass. (WLNE) — Road work will be taking place across several towns in Bristol County this week.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation detailed repairs for roads in Freetown and Mansfield on Wednesday.

MassDOT officials said crews will be repairing the bridge at Route 24 over the Assonet River in Freetown from 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

Drainage repairs will be conducted in Mansfield on the I-495 South Main Street ramp to I-495 northbound from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

The department said signage and details officers will be present to guide drivers through the work areas.

Officials added that drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays and use caution.

MassDOT contractors will also continue work along Dean Street/Route 44 in Taunton, according to the Taunton Department of Public Works.

Wood pole and anchor work, traffic signal improvements, and retaining wall work were scheduled this week.

City officials said crews will be continuing sidewalk reconstruction on Ingell Street and Weir Street in Taunton as well.

The MBTA also reported that signal systems installations and testing would be taking place in Middleborough, Lakeville, Raynham, Taunton, Freetown, Fall River, and New Bedford,

The work is part of the South Coast Rail project’s litany of safety precautions necessary before the line opens to passenger travel.

Officials advised the public that signals may be disabled during the work, during which times flaggers will be in place to direct train traffic through crossings.
