New parking meters coming to Providence offer multiple payment methods

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A new, standardized system of parking meters is coming to Providence.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley says many of the city’s meters have fallen into disrepair over the years.

Others don’t allow you to pay with credit cards, and are managed by different companies.

Now, the city wants to make it simple: a modern meter with multiple ways to pay.

The Department of Public Works started rolling out the new meters this week.
