Third lane opens on westbound side of Washington Bridge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A third lane has opened on the westbound side of the Washington Bridge.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said three lanes are now open on both sides of the bridge, a move hoping to ease traffic.

RIDOT said that drivers on the bridge should remember the speed limit has been reduced to 4o miles per hour on the bridge, the lanes have narrowed to 10 feet wide, and trucks must use the slightly wider far-right lanes.

Milling and paving work is scheduled to occur on the bridge beginning April 21.
