Armed man found dead after standoff with police in Cranston
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — An armed man was found dead after a standoff with police in Cranston on Saturday.
The Cranston Police Department said dispatch received a call at 1:12 p.m. about a suicidal man with a gun in an apartment on Pontiac Avenue.
Responding units formed a perimeter and alerted neighboring residents, attempting to establish communication with the individual.
Officers entered the apartment around 4 p.m. to find the 44-year-old man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot, per authorities.
A spokesperson for the department said their “thoughts are with the man’s family during this difficult time.”
