Man charged with DUI, sent to hospital after Moped accident

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) – A man faces charges and injuries after getting into an accident on a Moped early Tuesday morning.

At 1:20 a.m. Tuesday morning, Newport Police were dispatched to 87 Malbone Road after receiving reports of a vehicle accident.

Upon arriving to the scene, officers discovered Brandon King, 31, lying in the middle of the road with a head injury. Also at the scene was an off-duty Fireman that was treating King’s injuries.

King admitted to driving a Moped that crashed into a fence at 90 Malbone road shortly before police arrived.

An officer assisted King to a local hospital where he was admitted for non life-threatening injuries.

King is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, August 8 for charges including: DUI, refusal to accept a chemical test, leaving the lane of travel, driving without evidence of insurance, and operating with a suspended license.

King’s current condition is unknown.
