UPDATE: West Warwick standoff incident was never a threat to public

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The West Warwick Police and fire departments responded to a Harris Avenue residence for a medical aid incident Tuesday.

According to the West Warwick Police Department, after arriving, officers were informed that a male resident was uncooperative and might have access to weapons.

The male was reportedly alone in the residence.

The West Warwick/Coventry regional SWAT team brought to the scene out of an abundance of caution and were able to put a cell phone into the residence in order to speak to the occupant.

Negotiators were able to convince the male to exit the residence peacefully and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

There was never a threat to public safety.
