PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Police are investigating an attempted rape early Friday morning right near Providence College. The suspect remains on the loose.
The victim is a 21-year-old student at Johnson & Wales University. She police she left a party around 2 AM, and was walking home along Pinehurst Avenue near Chad Brown Street.
That’s when a shirtless man came up behind her and pushed her to the ground. According to police, the man then groped her and tried to get on top of her, ripping off her dress, but the woman fought back.
"She was kicking, screaming and doing whatever she could to get out of the situation, and eventually he heard what she thought was a car door close, which scared him off," said Maj. David Lapatin of the Providence Police Department.
We’re told police have increased patrols in that area.
Police have just a vague description of that suspect–only that the man was wearing black shorts and a black and white bandana.
If you have any information, call Providence Police.
