Fall River to receive $8 million in opioid settlement funds

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — Fall River will receive $8 million from $900 million worth of settlements with opioid distributors, pharmacies and drugmakers to go toward prevention, harm reduction, treatment and recovery services in Massachusetts.

Fall River will receive the money over the next 15 years, and as of March 26, the city has received payments totaling $1,854, 547.31

The city established the Fall River Opioid Settlement Funds Advisory Committee in 2023 to provide recommendations on what to do with the funding.

40 percent of the Massachusetts funds will go directly to municipalities to opioid-related directives and 60 percent will go toward the state’s Opioid Recovery and Remediation Fund for statewide efforts.
