Karen Read trial continues with witness testimony

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The trial of Karen Read enters day 3 of testimony today.

Read is facing charges of killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, back in January of 2022. Her defense is arguing that Canton police are using Read in a cover-up, and that lead investigator Michael Proctor is biased against her.

The defense is also accusing that the investigation wasn’t thorough, as police never talked to the homeowners of the home that O’Keefe was found outside of.

Yesterday, Canton firefighter and paramedic Timothy Nuttall took the stand. He testified Tuesday that when he responded to the scene that early morning back in January of 2022 to treat O’Keefe, he heard a woman saying “I hit him, I hit him.”

Nuttall said that the woman who said that had blood on her face and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Canton Police Officer Steve Saraf had testified that Read had blood on her face at the scene of the incident.

Read has pleaded not guilty.
