Providence students to call for schools and department of education to implement ethnic studies
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence students from OurSchoolsPVD are organizing a rally and teach-in on May 2 to call on the Providence Public School District (PPSD) and Rhode Island Department of Education to implement the recently passed School Board Resolution for the Implementation of Ethnic Studies in Providence Schools.
The rally will take place outside of Central High School at 3 p.m.
The resolution passed last week and calls for the creation of a yearlong Ethnic Studies course, which will be implemented as a Social Studies credit required for graduation starting in 2026.
The resolution also calls for the establishment of an Ethnic Studies Leadership Council, which gives students leadership roles in designing curriculum.
