Cranston man convicted of fentanyl trafficking conspiracy

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A Cranston man pleaded guilty in Boston federal court for participating in a drug trafficking operation that distributed fentanyl throughout Rhode Island and Southereastern Massachusetts.

Mario Rafael Dominguez-Ortiz, 27, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl.

Dominguez-Ortiz was indicted in August, 2022 along with nine other suspects.

The investigation began in March 2021 and identified Dominguez-Ortiz as being employed to deliver fentanyl.

He delivered the drug to a cooperating source on four occasions between July and November of 2021.

Dominguez-Ortiz faces up to 20 years in prison, at least three years and up to life of supervised release and a fine of $1 million.

Dominguez-Ortiz will be sentenced on August 6.

Another suspect in the operation, Estarlin Ortiz-Alcantara, pleaded guilty in December of 2023 and will be sentenced on July 9.
