Norwalk tanker crash prompts state of emergency, highway closure and overpass demolition
NORWALK, CT (WLNE) — A gas tanker crash in Norwalk, Connecticut on Thursday caused a fire that led to the shutdown of a section of I-95 and the eventual demolition of an overpass bridge.
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont declared a state of civil preparedness emergency saying in a letter to Connecticut Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas, “The immediate repair and/or reconstruction of the damaged highway/bridge is vital to the security, well-being, and health of the residents of Connecticut, as well as the residents of the states along the Eastern seaboard.”
This area of highway will be closed through “at least Monday” according to Lamont.
