Providence man to serve 25 years in state prison for armed robbery and sexual assault
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that a Providence man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for robbery, sexual assault, and gun-related crimes from a 2019 incident involving two female victims in Providence.
22-year-old Dewaun Smith was sentenced to 45 years with 25 years to serve at the ACI and a 20-year suspended sentence with 45 years of probation.
He was also ordered a no contact order, sex offender registration, and sex offender counseling.
In March, he pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of using a firearm while committing a crime of violence, and two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.
In 2019, Smith, along with Diamond Wilson-Wooten and Hector Cintron, sexually assaulted and robbed two female victims at gunpoint in the area of Manton Avenue in Providence.
In 2023, Wilson-Wooten pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree robbery, three counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of using a firearm during crimes of violence, and two counts of conspiracy. He was sentenced him to 52 years with 32 years to serve at the ACI.
In 2022, Cintron was convicted of three counts of first-degree sexual assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree sexual assault, and use of a firearm during a crime of violence and sentenced to 37 years, with 17 years to serve at the ACI.
