Gaza protestors hold demonstration outside Providence Public Library gala

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A group of pro-Palestinian protestors held a demonstration outside of the Providence Public Library during its Savor the Story gala on May 3.
Protestors called for divestment from Israel’s military and said they chose the gala to get the attention of attendees including Mayor Brett Smiley, Brown University President Christina Paxson, and Rhode Island Foundation President David Cicilline.
“As members of this community we feel that we are not being represented, this past week Brown University skirted around the decision to divest from Israel and we aren’t happy with that, that’s not enough,” one protestor said. “We won’t let them continue on with their lives while something is happening that they are a part of financially, it is their responsibility.”
Brown University students ended their divestment encampment on April 30 after reaching an agreement which said the university would hear a divestment proposal.
