Lincoln man charged with DUI after crash that damaged telephone pole

LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) — The Lincoln Police Department said that a man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after a rollover crash that damaged a telephone pole.

44-year-old Brandon Riley, of Lincoln, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

Police responded to Old River Road around 12:30 a.m. on May 4 for a rollover crash. On scene they found the telephone pole that was struck “completely severed from the ground.”

Officers evaluated Riley on scene and said that he showed signs of impairment including “slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and the odor of alcoholic beverages.”

Riley was issued summons for the two charges that were scheduled for May 13 and May 20.

He is also a bail violator due to currently being out on bail for a felony child abuse case.

The department’s 911 phone line was disrupted due to the damage to the telephone pole, but calls were rerouted while Rhode Island Energy crews repaired the line.
