DCYF discloses near death of teen

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF) disclosed the near death of a 16-year-old on Monday.

Damaris Teixeira, a spokesperson for the department, said the incident occurred on April 27, adding that the Office of the Child Advocate was notified of the case.

Because of confidentiality laws, Teixeira said DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.

Rhode Islanders are required by law to report cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect, per officials.
