The importance of grandmothers on Mother’s Day
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Grandmothers are vitally important long before you are born.
Mothers bring us into the world with love and a flood of oxytocin. Grandmothers are made to love you even more, right down to the cellular level.
Every female develops all the eggs she will ever have as a fetus in development, this means, and females started their life inside their mother while they was still growing inside their grandmother.
Grandmas are special pillars of the family. They are often the keepers of family history; giving grandkids a greater understanding of who they are and who their parents are.
In addition to being the glue keeping a family together, research has shown they also provide numerous benefits health-wise. Studies show kids who grow up with close bonds with their grandparents are less likely to be depressed as adults.
A National Institute of Health study found that when grandmothers spent one day a week caring for children, it reduced their Alzheimer’s risk.
Grandparents who babysit grandkids regularly had a 37% lower mortality risk than adults who did not.
Often, grandmothers are more enthusiastic about their grandchildren than their own kids.
A study out of Emory University found that during brain scans, the part of a grandmother’s brain associated with emotional empathy lit up when seeing photos of their grandchildren. It did not light up when they looked at photos of their adult children.
This Mother’s Day take a moment for Grandma. You wouldn’t be here without her and it’s scientifically proven, you’re the apple of her eye.
