Island gifted to Roger Williams for sale
NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Rabbit Island, an island gifted to the founder of the state, is currently for sale.
In an online listing posted by Real Estate Broker from RE/MAX Professionals, Jeanne Smith Haroian, the island in Wickford Cove is currently being sold for $899,900.
The island sits at about 9 acres of land.
According to the posting, the island was given to Roger Williams by the wife of the Narragansett Chief Canonicus, also known as Queen Sachem.
His wife gave him the land to raise his goats, which causing havoc in their mainland gardens.
Williams would later sell off the island, and the trading post he developed there.
