Cranston Police Officer’s firearm accidentally discharges following funeral for Weymouth officer

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Police are investigating an incident where a Cranston officer’s weapon accidentally discharged at a funeral for fallen Weymouth Police Sergeant Michael Chesna in July.
A report by Braintree Police said a Cranston police officer was on a bus changing out of his honor guard uniform when his service revolver fell out of the holster on his belt and discharged.
The incident occurred just before 3:00 p.m. on July 20th.
Pictures provided by Police show where the bullet then exited through the rear of the bus, striking the ground and causing debris to strike two MIT officers.
Police say both officers refused medical attention.
The incident is under investigation.
