URI master gardeners to distribute seedlings to Rhode Island nonprofits
KINGSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The University of Rhode Island Master Gardeners will begin plant pick-ups for registered nonprofits beginning Monday, May 13 for their annual seedling donation event.
The event will run through Wednesday, May 15 from 9:15 to noon each day at the Greenhouses at East Farm on Route 108 in Kingston.
There will be an additional pickup Tuesday, May 14 between 4 and 6 p.m.
The program makes URI-grown young plants available to schools and nonprofits for planting in beds and gardens.
The URI Master Gardener Program has raised 12,000 vegetable, herb and annual seedlings since march.
These plants will be distributed to nearly 100 community and school gardens across the state.
The majority of the seeds used for the program are donated by the Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation.
Thousands of pounds of fresh produce have been grown for nonprofits and Rhode Island residents since the program’s inception.
