Senate passes bill allowing breweries to sell 1/6th kegs to public

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Senate passed a bill Tuesday that would allow breweries to sell one-sixth kegs of beer to the public.

“With our state’s local breweries flourishing, it is important to give these small businesses every opportunity to succeed,” Senator Walter Felag (D-Dist. 10) said. “While also giving the consumer more options to support these businesses.”

Felag said allowing smaller kegs to be sold to the public will expand consumer choice and give local breweries new revenue streams within the state.

The General Assembly said the legislation would allow those with a manufacturer’s license to sell one one-sixth barrel keg of malt beverage, produced on the premises, per day to consumers.

The bill now heads to the House for consideration, where Representative Carol Hagan McEntee (D-Dist. 33) introduced the legislation.
