SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE-TV)— Pagan is no stranger to the dog show circuit. The 2 year old Borzoi places at many of them and has taken home numerous ribbons. He was competing again this weekend at the Ryan Center when suddenly the dog went missing.
“Sunday is when the nightmare started,” said Winnie Kelly, Pagan’s owner. “He took off.”
Kelly says her prized pooch escaped out of the van window as they were getting ready to leave and is now running loose in the woods somewhere near the URI campus. The Fall River woman has been searching tirelessly for Pagan ever since.
“He is my life,” she said. “I’m not doing very well at all.”
She’s set up camp over near Flagg Rd with food, water and a blanket. Kelly’s also been up and down the street posting one ‘missing’ flyers on every telephone pole. The signs have been working. Pagan has been spotted 3 times but the problem is actually catching him. His breed is similar to a greyhound making Pagan extremely fast.
“By the time somebody says I saw him at such and such a street I get there and he’s already gone,” she explained.
Before he took off, Pagan had just placed 4th in hound class in a show that attracted nearly 800 dogs from all around the country. As talented as he is, Kelly knows he’s out of his element and fears for him.
“I want him safe and sound and in one piece,” she said.
Kelly’s hoping she can catch him soon and get Pagan home where he belongs.
