EASTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Police announced Tuesday that the human remains found in Easton earlier this month belonged to a man reported missing three years ago.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said testing determined skeletal remains found in a stream by Summer Street belonged to Matthew Yeomans.

Officials said Yeomans was reported missing by his grandfather in September 2021 in the area of Summer Street, but police were unable to locate him.

A neighboring resident called police on May 1 to share that he had found what appeared to be a human skull in a brook on his property.

A larger search effort involving the Massachusetts State Police Department was formed the next day, discovering additional human remains.

The skull and remains were sent to the Massachusetts Office of Chief Medical Examiner for examination, where Yeoman’s dental records were compared to the skull, and an identification was made.

Authorities said no cause or manner of death is currently available, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police added that there is no threat to the public at this time.
