Woman sentenced to almost four years in prison for drug trafficking in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Officials announced Tuesday that a woman from California was sentenced for trafficking methamphetamine in Rhode Island.

The United State Attorney’s Office for Rhode Island said 52-year-old Nora Cecilia Carranza Reyes was sentenced to nearly four years in prison for participating in the delivery of four pounds of crystal meth in 2022.

Carranza Reyes was under law enforcement surveillance when she delivered the drugs at the direction of a Maine inmate who traveled to Rhode Island to retrieve the drugs on June 6, 2022, according to court documents.

The inmate was kept under surveillance while returning to Maine, and the drugs were seized by law enforcement during a traffic stop, per authorities.

Officials said Carranza Reyes was arrested on June 8, 2022, and a search of her vehicle led to the discovery of more methamphetamine stashed inside a duffel bag within the engine compartment.

Carranza Reyes pleaded guilty on January 25 to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute.

She was sentenced Tuesday to forty-six months in prison followed by three years of federal supervised release.
