UPDATE: Crews respond to early morning fire in Cranston, 8 displaced

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Emergency crews were on scene in Cranston this morning responding to a house fire.

The fire was reported around Vervena at Cranston Street at 5:30 a.m. for a code red.

Fire Chief Robert Ryan said the fire started from a minivan and spread to the home, making its way up to the roof.

8 people were evacuated from the home, including 5 adults and 3 kids.

There were no reported injuries.

The house is currently inhabitable, and residents are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
