South Kingstown adds pedestrian flags to 3 ‘key’ crosswalks

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The South Kingstown Police Department said that it has added pedestrian flags to three crosswalks in town to remind drivers to yield to pedestrians.
The flags are located at the crosswalks on Route 138 and South Road, Kingstown Road at Old Mountain Field, and South Road and the South County Bike Path.
“Drivers are more likely to yield to a person in a crosswalk who has a flag and stop at a crosswalk if someone is standing on the sidewalk with a flag,” Chief Matthew Moynihan said. “Our own department’s data shows that pedestrians at these three crosswalks would benefit most from this visual aid, and we are thankful to our colleagues at the Highway Department for installing them so quickly”
